John 1:4-5

"In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it." John 1:4-5 (NIV).

Our world continues to make this verse true, attempting to drown out the truth, the way, and the life. The darkness truly has not understood the truth. As a christian we face ridicule, being shunned and even being hated. In many parts of the world the consequences are far more extreme, loss of titles, family, jobs, imprisonment and even death. In Afghanistan in 2025 many christians have been killed and many more will be it is expected. Evil does all it can to shut out the light we try and share. I remember Vegas from a few years back. Prositutes on the street corner, gamberls and addicts filling all the hotels and casinos, drunks everywhere. It's easy to look at such a place and call it Sin City and be repusled by the sin we see. But we are called to be lights, even in such places. How can our light shine in such darkness? How can our light make a difference in such a place? If you have ever walked into the woods alone a night with just one light you realize how insignificant your light is, you can see only the direction of your flashlight, or if you have a latern you can see only a few feet around you. If you have ever scuba dived a night the feeling grows even more frightening. You seek to stay close to your dive buddy for the fear of being alone in the vast ocean always sits deep within you, despit how many times you've done it. You wonder how light your light does for you to see. However, your light does wonders for others to see you. We are worried of what may appear in front of us as we swim through the ocean or walk the woods alone, and subconciously we know whatever is out there can see us as we have a glowing beacon. A beacon in the night. Our light for Christ is no different. It's nerve racking to be the single light, alone. It's easy to want to hide it, and to wonder what impact we are making. We may not see far beyond our own bubble of light, but many can see us from far off. Chris is using you and me to make an impact. We just may not see it yet as they are too far away. But restassured, your light, The Light, stands out in the darkness. So, continue to shine. Find others who also are shining, for two lights is brighter than one, and there is imeasurable comfort in knowing you aren't alone.
