Mark 10:45, Servant

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:45 (NIV)

We often talk of our purpose in life, what it means, what it ought to be. Some people have a clear vision of their purpose and purse it to the end. Others are left wandering till they find it. Many never do. We know deep within ourselves that money, fame, girls, boys, cars, and the luxaries of life don't bring the lasting fullilment we need or want, though we often forget and chase these things. We know though that finding purpose and meaning brings lasting fullilment. What we sometimes fail to realize and connect is that serving other's brings about to fulfillment and purpose.

If you have ever helped someone in need, we often get a sense of feeling good about ourselves. Sometimes it's a prideful feeling, but that feeling exists regarless of how prideful we are. We felt good, felt meaningful, doing something good. Serving other's, if done from the right place in our hearts, has the most fullilment of anything in life. We are called to bring the message of Christ to others, and we do this by serving them.

Even Christ came to earth and served. If he is to be our role model, should we expect to do anything less?
